Banksy’s new five week exhibition in the English seaside town of Weston Super-Mare has people going crazy. A spoof of Disneyland, Banksy’s Dismaland is not the happiest place on earth. Featuring over fifty contemporary artists, attractions such as an overturned Cinderella chariot and a whale resembling Shamu jumping out of a toilet provoke an emotional response by all patrons. But what has fans fuming is the difficulty in buying tickets. The first day tickets were available the website crashed within minutes of being live. Was this part of Banksy’s plan to underscore the theme that this is not a happy place? Upset fans, apparently missing the irony of the situation, grew impatient. I know what they felt. Living in a different time zone, I set my alarm for 4:00 am to try and secure a ticket online only to realize the website had crashed. While I was disappointed I found the entire situation comical. How appropriate that I was so disappointed to not get a ticket to the most unhappy place on earth.
