The Guardians: Hero

Two towering sculptures stand in Bryant Park in the Big Apple. One is made of marble, the other stainless steel. Titled Hero and Superhero, the two “Guardian” statues serve to watch over Manhattan. Commissioned by Equity Office, the two statues were given to the city of New York as a gift in 2013 during the Year of Italian Culture in the United States. The two statues represent the past and present, which is evident in the choice of materials, marble and stainless steel. However, more importantly, Hero and Superhero serve to highlight the importance of international friendship between the United States and Italy.
