Central Garden

qe.jpgWhen going to the Getty Center it is easy to get carried away wandering through the galleries marveling at the impressive collection of art. However, be sure not to forget the Getty Center’s living work of art, Robert Irwin’s Central Garden. Located with a panoramic view of Los Angeles, the Central Garden is home to over 500 different plants including Bougainvilleas, Lavender, Tea Roses and Kangaroo Paw, not to mention the floating Azaleas in the heart of the garden. Written on the ground is the phrase “Always changing, never twice the same.” With each season comes a different garden fresh with brilliant colors, smells and views.

On the balcony of the newly designed Whitney Museum of American Art, Virginia Overton has created a blossoming oasis. Large basins teem with water grass and lilies of brilliant pinks and purples. Two tall windmills tower above providing energy and power to help sustain the potted ecosystems. If the New York summer is too hot for you, Overton brings the outdoors inside with her sculptures and installations.

Empty Lot

It is always exciting to see what piece of art is installed at Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall. Currently on display are numerous triangular planter boxes titled Empty Lot by Abraham Cruzvillegas. These planter boxes are filled with soil collected from parks around London. Water and light are provided. Nothing was planted in these planter boxes raising the question will anything grow? It provides for an intriguing artistic piece that may or may not change over the course of its time in Turbine Hall. Follow this blog and I will let you know if anything grows!
