Park People // Nathan Sawaya
Artist Nathan Sawaya created six sculptures made out of a toy known worldwide — LEGOS. The sculptures were titled “Park People.” The monochrome LEGO people were seated on various benches in downtown Los Angeles. Sitting in a variety of poses, the sculptures encouraged a passerby to sit along side them and interact with public art.
A new collection of one-of-a-kind jewelry has been gifted to LACMA by Lois Boardman. A selection of 50 stunning pieces have recently been on view in the exhibition “Beyond Bling: Jewelry From the Lois Boardman Collection.” Showcased jewelry included a lego necklace, an earthenware dish plate necklace, ornate crowns and even a nosepiece. But if viewing these stunning pieces made you yearn to try one on, LACMA created four different Snapchat filters allowing you to see yourself wearing some of the works on view including a crown, glasses and a necklace.

The holiday festivities are in full force in London’s Covent Garden. Located to the right of the main entrance is a Lego masterpiece, the Santa Express. This train is made entirely out of legos and is equipped with a Christmas tree, teddy bear and presents. The Lego Santa Express was created by the UK’s only Lego Certified Professional, essentially a lego artist.
I love legos. When I was younger I had a lego table and would spend hours building with legos. My crowning glory was constructing the Harry Potter Castle. However, my lego skills can’t compare with this artist’s talent. Located in Hamley’s Toy Store on Regent Street in London sits the Queen, her corgi and of course the crown jewels, all composed of legos. I wish I had the ability to make something like this! What masterpieces have you created out of legos?
Calling all lego lovers! Ai Weiwei is calling for a favor! If anyone has spare lego blocks, Ai Weiwei is asking anyone to donate their pieces for his next art installation at the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne. His work will address freedom of speech and be made out of legos. So why is he asking you to donate a lego? After Ai was unable to obtain a bulk set of legos due to his piece’s political message, he decided to ask his fans for a little help. If you feel inclined, come by the Royal Academy in London or any of the other drop off locations. The location at the RA happens to be a cherry red 5 Series BMW. Ai also asked fans to borrow their cars to use as the lego drop box. Simply place your legos through the sun roof and wait to see what Ai creates.
