The V-J Day photograph of a sailor kissing a nurse in Times Square at the end of WWII was featured first in Life Magazine. It is a photo that became instantly famous and is still celebrated. While the original photograph was in black and white, this iconic image has been brought to life in color. Bright yellow, green, blue, red, purple, orange and pink all radiates out from the central kissing couple who are also vibrantly painted with the sailor’s hat a striking white. Now, thanks to this artist, the image can continue its life in color.
New York City is known for its lively art scene. You can find art on just about every street corner in the Big Apple. As I was eating at Shake Shack Times Square I strategically picked a table by the window to people watch. However, I was surprised by what I saw. I spied a colorfully decorated building completely covered in various slogans and illustrations. I spent most of my lunch trying to read the phrases and see how their location on the building interacted with the surrounding paintings. I wonder where I will spy art next.
