Westminster Bus // Jenny Leonard // Photographs by Alexa Corbin
2014 in London was “Year of the Bus,” a year dedicated to honoring the iconic red double-deckers and their bus drivers in this bustling city. Part of the celebration was a sculpture trail where 50 bus sculptures were painted and decorated. They were auctioned off to donate to three charities: Kids Company, Transaid and the London Transport Museum. The Westminster Bus sculpture is still on view down the street from Westminster Abbey. Have you found anymore in the city?
Momentum III // Michael Speller // 2012
Ever tried walking through Westminster on a Monday morning? You have people walking quickly to work and tourists stopping every few feet to marvel at Parliament and take pictures. It seems fitting for artist Michael Speller to place his bronze sculpture “Momentum III” in this bustling part of the city. A figure is shown walking in the smallest of three concentric rings. It seems to resemble a hamster wheel, where he just keeps walking around and around. Where is he off to? Maybe, he is late for work. Or maybe, he is exploring the city.
